Vegas- you either love it or hate it. I happen to fall into the LOVE category and visit Sin City every chance that I get.
I first discovered this amazing city in 2014 and have been hooked ever since! We’ve stayed for as long as week and for as little as a few days. Both are great depending on what you want to see and do while you’re in town.
Las Vegas is located in the state of Nevada and is situated in a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert. Much of the landscape is rocky and arid with desert vegetation and wildlife. Summer months can get VERY hot with July being the hottest month with daily average temperatures of 104.2 F but with extremely low humidity, thank goodness. Winter is short and very mild with December being the coolest month. Deciding WHEN you want to visit Vegas plays a huge role in what kind of weather you’ll have. We find May and November to be very nice.
Gambling- You’ll find no shortage of gambling in Las Vegas. From slot machines, sports book, poker, roulette, craps, etc. you’re bound to find a game to tickle your fancy. We love hopping from casino to casino, testing our luck. You’ll find everything from penny slots to high stakes poker games in each.
Food- Oh my gosh! The food here is just incredible! I could write a blog post on it alone! Whether you have a few bucks to spend or a couple hundred, there is something for everyone! On a budget? Hit Earl of Sandwich in Planet Hollywood or In and Out Burger (YUM) in the Linq Promenade. Looking for a truly spectacular breakfast? Head to the Henry in the Cosmopolitan Resort. I get the short ribs eggs benedict every time and it never disappoints. It’s incredible and reason enough all by itself to go to Vegas. Seriously! Want tacos? Head to Tacos El Gordo! There will be a wait but it’s worth it. Trust me.
There is no shortage of celebrity chef owned restaurants in Vegas but we tend to love the Gordon Ramsay options. We’ve had Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips (OMG!), Gordon Ramsay Burger (freaking amazing) and Gordon Ramsay Steak which is absolutely stunning. Pricey but stunning. We haven’t visited since Hell’s Kitchen opened but that will be happening soon!
Shows- You will find some incredible shows in Vegas. Everything from concerts to comedy to Cirque offerings. Pricing ranges from all but free to astronomical. While we’ve never been to a concert in Vegas, we’ve seen comedy shows and Cirque shows and everything in between! I highly recommend Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace if you’re looking for an adult show with a ton of humor thrown in.
Excursions/day trips- Vegas is very close to the Grand Canyon, Red Rock, Zion, Hoover Damn, Lake Mead and so much more! Staying for more than a few days? I highly recommend renting a car and driving to the Hoover Damn, hitting Route 66, and heading on to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It’s incredible and best experienced in a convertible! Don’t have a ton of time but want an amazing experience? I HIGHLY recommend riding ATV’s through the Mojave Desert! We had SO much fun doing this!
Resorts/hotels- There is literally resorts from one end of the Strip to the other! They each have their own theming and vibe and pricing is literally all over the place! Depending on my budget for the trip, favorites range from the Linq to Planet Hollywood to the Cosmopolitan to the Cromwell.
Free- Lots of free and fun things to see in Vegas! I can’t stress enough how much fun you’ll have “people watching” in Vegas. It’s one of my favorite things. If you get bored with that, watch the fountain show at the Bellagio! It’s amazing!! Another favorite is the Bellagio Conservatory. Theming depends on time of year, but it’s always beautiful! While at the Bellagio, you can also see some fantastic work from Chihuly. Another great free and fun thing that I consider a “must” if you leave the Strip, is Fremont Street at night. Fremont Street is basically “old Vegas” but at night, the canopy turns into a concert and it’s SO much fun. GO!
Ford Mustang lover? Hit the Shelby museum, you’ll be glad you did.
Weddings/vow renewals- Looking for a unique wedding destination? Vegas is the place for you! From fun little chapels and being married by Elvis to vow renewals in front of the Las Vegas sign, so much fun!
Vegas isn’t for everyone, but if it’s for you, let me know and we will start planning your trip!
