Post-labor day look ahead…

By: Amy Rambo

Summer unofficially ended last weekend in a Labor Day haze of grill smoke and blazing temperatures. Most likely, you’re feeling ready for a change of season. Walking into Publix these days perhaps you can’t help but relish the smell of cinnamon brooms, or maybe you hunger after the pumpkin flavored everything that they have displayed. We’re just as excited about cooling temperatures and falling leaves; just as ready to exchange our sundresses for sweaters. Bring on autumn!

However, fast forward in your mind to four months from now. You’ve had your fill of pumpkin, the busy Christmas season has flown by in a blur, and that cashmere sweater you love has gotten an unsightly snag. When the winter winds are blowing and the sun is disappearing at 5pm, you’ll probably be wishing for a bit of summer haze or a respite from your normal routines.

To break up the monotony that can be January and February, we suggest that you book one of the following destinations now. Your winter 2023 self will be so grateful you did:

Classic Warm-Weather Destinations:

Hawaii - When is Hawaii not a good idea? The number one wish-list destination for those living in North America, Hawaii never fails to deliver on beauty and amazing experiences. If you’ll be dreaming of warm weather and beautiful beaches once January and February roll around, Hawaii would be a great destination for you. Although it can get a bit chilly at night–think temperatures into the 60s–expect the days to hover around a balmy 80 degrees. Plus, January and February land in the middle of whale watching season!

We always love a trip to Hawaii!

DR - Like Hawaii, the Dominican Republic boasts year-round warm temperatures and outstanding natural beauty. Only 3.5 hours from Atlanta, the island has some of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in the world. You might have read some of our earlier posts about the DR, but if not check them out here and here. We love the Dominican Republic for many reasons, but it’s great to visit during January and February in particular because these months fall between hurricane season and the rainy season.

Longer Flights BUT Worth Every In-Air Hour:

Thailand - If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Thailand is an excellent destination for January or February. The tropical country both in its upland jungles and southern islands see slightly cooler temperatures in January and February. Cooler temps can be ideal if you’re looking to visit the northern, adventurous town of Chiang Mai with its ziplines and jungle hikes. However, if you desire to soak up the beautiful islands, such as Koh Samui or Koh Lanta, January and February still offer plenty of warm sun and sand. One thing to keep in mind is that the Lunar New Year falls in January (specifically, January 22, 2023). This marks a high travel season for many Asian countries and the week of the New Year is more crowded than other times during January or February.

Don’t Fight the Cold, Embrace It:

Vail, Colorado - Maybe you’d rather embrace the winter season by heading to the mountains. If you want to stay within the continental US, Colorado offers a number of excellent ski slopes just a few hours west of Denver. Although January and February are the peak months of ski season, don’t let that deter you from embracing a winter adventure. There are a variety of resort options that vary in price, but offer excellent amenities both on and off the slopes.

French Alps - Maybe an all-inclusive experience sounds like the perfect winter escape from your normal routine. Head over to the Alps with one of Club Med’s French based all-inclusives. Situated in locales such as Alpe d’Huez and Val d’Isère, these all-inclusive offers have packages that include flights and resort amenities along with lodging and lift tickets. If you’ve dreamed of wintering in a quaint European village tucked high in the Alps, then let us help you realize that dream by booking for you an unforgettable French Alp experience.

Autumn’s family living it up in Switzerland!
